Patient Care Technician

Our Patient Care Technician (PCT) program is a great way to start building your skills.
(Students must be at least 16 years of age.)
- Small class sizes
- Participants will earn a total of 9 college credits upon completion of the PCT certificate.
- As part of the PCT certificate program students complete the nursing assistant course and are eligible, but not required, to take the State of Wisconsin Nurse Aide Competency Examination.
- Upon completion of the PCT program, students are eligible to take the PCT certification exam.
- Students will complete various, hands-on clinical experiences at either a hospital, clinic, or nursing home setting.
Patient Care Technicians (PCTs) play an essential role in the compassionate healthcare team, making a profound difference in the lives of patients and their families. As a PCT, you’ll step into a meaningful role, working closely with nurses and medical teams to deliver hands-on care and vital support. With demand for PCTs increasing, completing this program and earning your certification opens the door to a fulfilling career. Students must successfully complete all course requirements in order to complete the program and be eligible to test for certification) Emphasizing teamwork and collaboration, this course prepares students to work effectively as part of an interdisciplinary care team, ensuring they are well-equipped to excel in diverse healthcare settings. Upon completion of this course, the student will: * Content-specific medical terminology will be incorporated into each content section All requirements for program entry must be completed prior to entry into the program. This course is designed to provide students with the essential knowledge and hands-on clinical skills needed to perform a broad range of patient care procedures and techniques, essential to the role of a Patient Care Technician (PCT). Students will gain theoretical knowledge of key concepts such as patient-centered care, quality and safety, and effective communication, while developing the practical expertise necessary to provide high-quality patient care within the role of a PCT. Prerequisites: NA 150
The PCT program consists of three courses:
Nursing Assistant: Offered in the fall, spring and summer semesters
Customer Service in Healthcare: Offered in fall and spring semesters
Patient Care Technician: Offered in spring and summer semesters
